This was one of my first attempts to get close using add on close up lenses, and a strobe on a compact camera, I had to take quite a few shots to make sure I had the focus placed exactly right, as microscopic movements at this scale can lead to focussing errors.It's also worth noting that even if you are able to select specific apertures on your compact camera, it doesn't necessarily mean it actually has a physical aperture, that will increase or decrease your depth of field.Many compacts will let you choose a range of apertures from f2.8 through to f8(f16 zoomed in) but all they are doing is placing an electronic ND filter into the equation, so worth checking with someone in the know about this issue.
